"The Twins" - Crown City, Ohio

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

Autumn and Allie Cook, 22, have always lived in Crown City, and don’t plan on ever leaving.

With slightly over 500 residents, according to the 2020 census, the two believe they know most of everyone in the area — if not all.

The girls worked at the town’s dairy bar – named “Dairy Boy” – in high school, which is only steps away from the town’s only gas station and Giovannis that is connected. Some customers knew them by first name, but being identical, “the twins,” was the common introduction.

The Dairy Boy was one of their favorite jobs and they worked there for almost four years.

“Everybody was nice. I don’t know a single soul in Crown City that was rude,” Allie said about her time at the dairy bar.

“That's one benefit of being in a small area,” Autumn said. “(People) will help you with anything. You always have a friend even if you just move here.”

Autumn thinks that negative stereotypes on regions are only based on people who aren’t from the area, as she experienced it even at the dairy bar.

“It’s usually people that were rude came from somewhere else…People who live in the city know how it’s run, knows who runs it, knows how everything is, so they are really nice and understanding,” Autumn said.

And that’s just how Crown City residents are, just like Autumn and Allie.

The twins support another small business, Eagle Rock Carryout, by buying their favorite cotton candy slushies. Or, if the flavor was not in, they would understand and pick another or buy dog food from the local business.

“Everybody tries to help each other. Nobody has a bitter neighbor,” Allie said. Autumn, nodding along with her sister, “If you move to Crown City, you’ll find yourself making friends with everybody too.”
